I like to share authors and books that have been helpful to me. There have been numerous writers, theologians, and Bible teachers that God has used to make huge deposits into my spiritual life. If these resources have been helpful to me, my guess is they’ll be helpful to you too.
C.S. Lewis is one of those authors that continues to teach, encourage, entertain, convict, and edify me all at the same time. Lewis’ classic, Mere Christianity, is a book I’ve returned to time and again and I’ve learned something new each time I’ve read it. Also, The Screwtape Letters, and A Grief Observed are books that have been enormously beneficial. With that in mind, I thought I’d share a few of my favorite quotes from C.S. Lewis with you.
- “God cannot give us happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.”
- “True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less.”
- “Faith is the art of holding on to things in spite of your changing mood and circumstances.”
- “To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.”
- “If I find in myself desires in which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is I was made for another world.”
It’s easy to see why C.S. Lewis is among the most quoted writers and theologians of all time. His timeless wisdom and insight continues to live on decades after his death. We live in an era and culture where so many great books and resources are at our fingertips. It’d be a shame if we missed out.
