Hey, friends.
Like many of you, I’ve been staring in disbelief at the media footage of yet another mass shooting, this time at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. As frequently as we’ve been bombarded with horrific news, there’s a risk of becoming desensitized to tragedy. It’s easy to sigh, shake our head, and say in a tone of resignation, “Well, all I can do is pray.”
But prayer isn’t passive. It’s the most powerful thing we have to offer those who are suffering.
Yesterday, once again, I had to remind myself that prayer moves the hand of God. Maybe you need some encouragement from time to time to press on in your prayer life. As we head into the weekend, I want to share five of my favorite quotes on prayer with you:
- “It is possible to move men, through God, by prayer alone.” Hudson Taylor
- “The men who have done mighty things for God have always been mighty in prayer, have well understood the possibilities of prayer, and have made the most of these possibilities.” E.M. Bounds
- “Prayer does not equip us for the greater works. Prayer is the greater work.” Oswald Chambers
- “A house without prayer is a house without a roof.” Charles Spurgeon
- “More than anything else, Satan wants us to let grass grow on the path to our prayer chamber.” E.M. Bounds.
Let’s be sure to pray for those who are suffering in Oregon. They need our prayers and we need to be people of prayer.
Have a good weekend, friends. Let’s keep the faith.
