Like many of you, I’m an avid reader. God has used numerous writers, theologians, and Bible teachers to mature my faith. I like to share authors and resources that have been helpful to me. That’s the reason I have included the good-reads page along with the blog. Oswald Chambers, a pastor and author from Scotland, is one of the writers that has helped me grow as a Christian. Although Chambers authored twenty-nine books, he is best known for his classic devotional, My Utmost For Highest. It’s a book I’ve read and gone back to time and again. In fact, this is my second copy.
If you’re looking for a devotional to kick off the New Year, this is an excellent choice. I thought I’d share five of my favorite quotes on prayer from a variety of his books to give you a taste of his writing.
- “We tend to use prayer as a last resort, but God wants it to be our first line of defense. We pray when there’s nothing else we can do, but God wants us to pray before we do anything at all.
- “Prayer is the exercise of drawing on the grace of God.”

As Americans, we are fortunate to live in a culture with so many excellent resources at our fingertips. Let’s take advantage of what is out there.
