Jesus’ birth is evidence that God keeps his promises. Since Old Testament times, God had been promising that He would send the Christ child who would be known by these names: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isa. 9:6). God fulfilled that promise in the birth of Jesus Christ.
Thumb through the Old Testament, you’ll find that God has already fulfilled many of the promises that He made to His people. God’s timing is perfect, and in due time, He will fulfill all the promises He has made. Why is this important? Keeping promises reveals that God is trustworthy. God keeps His promises pertaining to world history, and you can trust that God will keep His promises to you.
This holiday season, one of the ways you can grow in your relationship with God is to let go and rely on His promises. Practically speaking, that means living in a way that demonstrates you trust God to keep his word. For instance, God has promised never to leave you or forsake you (Heb. 13:5). He has promised to give your strength (Isa. 41:10) and to give you peace (John 14:27). The Bible is packed full of promises. As you celebrate Advent, take some time to look through the Bible and find some of God’s promises that speak to you. Remind yourself of God’s promise throughout the day. Thank Him for His promises. Approach each day with confidence—knowing that God keeps his promises. Christmas is proof of it!
